Bundle Overview =============== This bundle consists of two collections for the Apollo 17 Surface Electrical Properties (SEP) Experiment . The collections are: - Apollo 17 Surface Electrical Properties Experiment Calibrated ASCII Data Collection: Contains two comma-delimited ASCII files of calibrated lunar surface electromagnetic field data at six measured frequencies from 1.0 to 32.1 MHz and navigation (range) data from the SEP Experiment at the Apollo 17 landing site for the time span of 11-13 December 1972. One file contains straightened science and navigation (range) data; the other file contains only unstraightened science data. The /data/ directory in this bundle contains this collection. The bundle description in the document collection describes the format of these ASCII data products. - Apollo 17 Surface Electrical Properties Experiment Calibrated ASCII Data - Document Collection: Contains supporting documentation, including the bundle description document and a copy of the SEP chapter of the Apollo 17 Preliminary Science Report. This collection also contains high- and low-resolution digital reproductions of the three-part SEP final technical report that includes plots of the complete set of processed lunar field data, as dB values versus range, at six measured frequencies from 1.0 to 32.1 MHz for the time span of 11-13 December 1972. The /document/ directory in this bundle contains this collection. Each data and document product in this bundle is described by a PDS4 label in a separate file with the same name but with the extension "xml". PDS4 labels are XML (eXtended Markup Language) files that conform to the PDS4 Information Model at https://pds.nasa.gov/pds4/schema/released/. The labels are best viewed in an XML-aware text editor, and may be used by software that can manipulate XML documents. See these sources for more information: - For information about Apollo 17 SEP data products in this bundle, see the document collection in this bundle. A good place to start is the bundle description document, bundle_description.pdf. - For information about Apollo 17 SEP, see the SEP chapter of the Apollo 17 Preliminary Science Report, NASA SP-330, 1973, which is provided in the document collection as a17_psr_ch15_sep.pdf. The user should read Grimm (2018), New analysis of the Apollo 17 surface electrical properties experiment, Icarus, 134, pp. 389-399, doi:10.1016/j.icarus.2018.06.007. This paper reviews the SEP experiment and methodology, presents a new analysis of the Apollo 17 SEP data contained in this archive, and discusses Apollo-era and new lunar results. - For information about PDS4, see https://pds.nasa.gov/pds4/about/. This bundle was created by the NASA Space Science Data Coordinated Archive (NSSDCA) for an Apollo data restoration effort and archived at the Geosciences Node of the NASA Planetary Data System.
