PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM INSTRUMENT_HOST_NAME = "HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE" INSTRUMENT_NAME = "WIDE FIELD PLANETARY CAMERA 2" TARGET_NAME = MARS OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2003-10-13 NOTE = "Introduction to Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 observations of Mars" END_OBJECT = TEXT END HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE WIDE FIELD PLANETARY CAMERA 2 OBSERVATIONS OF MARS Introduction ------------ This data set contains observations of Mars from the Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 instrument on the Hubble Space Telescope, acquired between April 27, 1999 and September 4, 2001, by research teams lead by Jim Bell (Cornell University), Phil James (University of Toledo), and Keith Noll (Space Telescope Science Institute). Information about this data set can be found in the DATASET.CAT file in the CATALOG directory of this archive. File Formats ------------ The data products in this archive are stored as FITS image and spectral cube files with detached ASCII-text PDS labels. The file naming convention for spectral cube files is yymmdd_proj.CUB where "yymmdd" is the two-digit year, month, and day of acquisition and "proj" is either "CYL" for simple cylindrical projection or "ORTH" for orthographic projection. An example file name is 990427_CYL.CUB. The file naming convention for image files is RLxxxxxxxx1A[_proj].IMG where "R" stands for "Radiance factor calibrated, "L" stands for Lucey-Richardson PSF deconvolved, and "xxxxxxxx" contains a combination of letters and numbers, the first six of which are the rootname of the HST archive data set to which the file belongs. All files belonging to a given dataset share the same rootname. In addition, the extension "proj" is "CYL" for simple cylindrical projection, "ORTH" for orthographic projection, or omitted for an unprojected image. An example file name is RL6GQ0704M1A_ORTH.IMG. Each data file is described by a PDS label in a separate file with the same name, extension ".LBL", in the same directory as the data file. The labels contain identification and observation parameters associated with the data files and definitions for the IMAGE and SPECTRAL_CUBE objects. Volume Contents --------------- This archive includes the following files and directories. Root directory AAREADME.TXT - the file you are reading VOLDESC.CAT - volume description for the PDS catalog INDEX directory INDXINFO.TXT - description of contents of this directory INDEX.TAB - index of all products in the archive INDEX.LBL - PDS label that describes INDEX.TAB CATALOG directory CATINFO.TXT - description of contents of this directory *.CAT - descriptions of dataset, instrument, instrument host, and personnel for the PDS catalog DATA directory Data files are aggregated by day of observation, with a separate subdirectory for each day, named according to the format YYYYMMDD.
