Unless otherwise noted, all comments apply to the MINI-TES datasets from both rovers (MER1 and MER2). The MINI-TES team reserves the right to update online standard data products and will post a description of those changes to this text. Older versions of standard data products or documentation will not be maintained and the update will replace the previous version. This document is divided into sections based on the nature of the errata comment. Section-A lists known errata that affects the entire dataset. Section-B includes a table of characteristics of each data release and a description of changes applied to the re-released data products. Section-C lists miscellaneous updates to documentation related to the MINI-TES dataset. These errata are listed by date. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- A. KNOWN DATA ANOMALIES A.1 LABEL KEYWORDS NOT LISTED IN PDS DATA DICTIONARY The keywords listed below are used only in MINI-TES standard data product labels, but are not defined in the PDS Data Dictionary. All keywords are defined in the MER MINI-TES SDPSIS (JPL D-22847). APPLICATION_PROCESS_SUBTYPE_ID INST_LINEAR_MOTOR_STATUS_FLAG INST_FIELD_OF_VIEW INST_GAIN_STATE INST_OPTICAL_SWITCH_STATE INST_LASER_1_STATUS_FLAG INST_LASER_2_STATUS_FLAG INST_LASER_HEATER_STATUS_FLAG INST_SPARE_BIT_FLAG INSTRUMENT_COORDINATE_NAME INST_CMD_CENTER_AZIMUTH INST_CMD_CENTER_ELEVATION INST_CMD_COLUMNS INST_CMD_ROWS INST_CMD_DWELL INST_CMD_VERTICAL_SPACE INST_CMD_HORIZONTAL_SPACE INST_CMD_CO_ADD INST_CMD_CAL_FREQUENCY INST_CMD_CAL_DWELL INST_CMD_CAL_CO_ADD INST_CMD_PHASE_ALGORITHM_NAME INST_CMD_LOW_CHANNEL INST_CMD_HIGH_CHANNEL TELEMETRY_FMT_EXTENSION_TYPE TELEMETRY_SOURCE_NAME TLM_INST_DATA_HEADER_ID The following keywords are optional for PDS SPECTRAL_QUBE labels and are used in all MINI-TES standard data product labels; they are not defined in the current PDS Data Dictionary (Rev E, Aug 2002). All keywords are defined in the MER MINI-TES SDPSIS (JPL D-22847). HISTORY_TYPE BAND_SUFFIX_NAME BAND_SUFFIX_UNIT BAND_SUFFIX_ITEM_BYTES BAND_SUFFIX_ITEM_TYPE The following keywords are required for PDS SPECTRAL_QUBE labels but are not used in any MINI-TES standard data product labels. CORE_HIGH_INSTR_SATURATION CORE_HIGH_REPR_SATURATION CORE_LOW_INSTR_SATURATION CORE_LOW_REPR_SATURATION CORE_VALID_MINIMUM A.2 EMPTY MINI-TES DATA PRODUCTS All MINI-TES images that are downlinked with at least one data packet are processed through the MTES2EDR and CALIBRATE_QUBE software. In the event of partial or complete data loss, MTES2EDR fills the data values with CORE_NULL as described in the MER MINI-TES SDPSIS (JPL D-22847), Section 2.3.2. This procedure can result in a completely empty (CORE_NULL) EDR and higher level products. Depending on the circumstances, the cause of the data loss may be discussed in the "Sol Summary" available at the Analyst Notebook website (http://anserver1.eprsl.wustl.edu). All empty data products are not included in the data archive. A.3 INSTRUMENT COMMAND PARAMETER CHECKOUT, SEQUENCE P3003 Shortly after arriving at Mars, MINI-TES executed sequence p3003 to verify that all instrument command parameters were executing correctly. Although the high level data products exist for this sequence, they are known to contain significant errors and anomalies. The RDR, BTR, and EMR qubes with the following PRODUCT_ID values should not be used: MER1 SOL 010, 1T12906####aaa0224P3003N0A1.QUB MER2 SOL 003, 2T12664####aaa0200P3003N0A1.QUB (where aaa is RDR, BTR, or EMR) A.4 INTERMITTENT USE OF MER-1 (MER-B) MINI-TES AFTER SOL 395 An intermittent in the MER-1 (MER-B) Mini-TES instrument was identified on Sol 395. This has resulted in the restricted operation of the Mini-TES subsequent to this date. However, the instrument has continued to operate nominally after Sol 395, but at a reduced frequency. Any empty or corrupt data products from this period are not included in the archive (see A.2). A.5 DUST CONTAMINATION OF MER-1 AND MER-2 MINI-TES PMA OPTICS The Mini-TES instruments on both rovers were subjected to major dust storm events in 2007. As a result of these events, a significant amount of dust was deposited on the Mini-TES mirror surfaces within the Pancam Mast Assembly (PMA). This dust contamination has significantly reduced the optical throughput of the Mini-TES optics in the PMA, and as a result, has degraded the quality of the Mini-TES spectra and standard data products. All Mini-TES data acquired subsequent to the following epochs have been degraded by this dust accumulation: MER-1 (MER-B) SOL 1159 MER-2 (MER-A) SOL 1215 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- B. DATA RELEASE CHARACTERISTICS AND REVISIONS Original MINI-TES data releases follow the schedule available in the MER Archive Plan (JPL D-19658). Each release is identified by a RELEASE_ID value which is available in the label of each MINI-TES standard data product. Software updates may warrant the re-release of publicly available data products. Re-released data products can be identified by the modifications of the values of the label keywords PRODUCT_CREATION_DATE and PRODUCT_VERSION_ID, and various HISTORY object keywords; appropriate values are listed in the table below. Release table applies to DATA_SET_ID = {"MER1-M-MTES-2-EDR-V1.0", "MER1-M-MTES-3-RDR-V1.0", "MER1-M-MTES-3-BTR-V1.0", "MER1-M-MTES-3-EMR-V1.0", "MER2-M-MTES-2-EDR-V1.0", "MER2-M-MTES-3-RDR-V1.0", "MER2-M-MTES-3-BTR-V1.0", "MER2-M-MTES-3-EMR-V1.0"} DATE REL_ID SOL REL_TYPE EDR_VER MTES2EDR RDR_VER CALIB_QUBE 2004/08 0001 1-30 ORIG V2.0 D-22847 v3.15 1.0 3.11 2004/10 0001 1-30 RE-REL V2.1 D-22847 v3.18 1.1 3.11 2004/10 0002 31-90 ORIG V2.1 D-22847 v3.18 1.1 3.11 2004/01 0003 91-180 ORIG V2.1 D-22847 v3.18 1.1 3.11 2005/04 0001 1-30 RE-REL V2.1 D-22847 v3.18 1.2 3.13 2005/04 0002 31-90 RE-REL V2.1 D-22847 v3.18 1.2 3.13 2005/04 0003 91-180 RE-REL V2.1 D-22847 v3.18 1.2 3.13 2005/04 0004 181-270 ORIG V2.1 D-22847 v3.18 1.2 3.13 2005/07 0001 1-30 RE-REL V2.1 D-22847 v3.19 1.3 3.14 2005/07 0002 31-90 RE-REL V2.1 D-22847 v3.19 1.3 3.14 2005/07 0003 91-180 RE-REL V2.1 D-22847 v3.19 1.3 3.14 2005/07 0004 181-270 RE-REL V2.1 D-22847 v3.19 1.3 3.14 2005/07 0005 271-360 ORIG V2.1 D-22847 v3.19 1.3 3.14 2005/10 0006 361-450 ORIG V2.1 D-22847 v3.19 1.3 3.14 2006/02 0007 451-540 ORIG V2.1 D-22847 v3.19 1.3 3.14 2006/04 0008 541-630 ORIG V2.1 D-22847 v3.19 1.3 3.14 2006/07 0009 631-720 ORIG V2.1 D-22847 v3.19 1.3 3.14 2006/10 0001 1-30 RE-REL V2.1 D-22847 v3.19 1.4 3.15 2006/10 0002 31-90 RE-REL V2.1 D-22847 v3.19 1.4 3.15 2006/10 0003 91-180 RE-REL V2.1 D-22847 v3.19 1.4 3.15 2006/10 0004 181-270 RE-REL V2.1 D-22847 v3.19 1.4 3.15 2006/10 0005 271-360 RE-REL V2.1 D-22847 v3.19 1.4 3.15 2006/10 0006 361-450 RE-REL V2.1 D-22847 v3.19 1.4 3.15 2006/10 0007 451-540 RE-REL V2.1 D-22847 v3.19 1.4 3.15 2006/10 0008 541-630 RE-REL V2.1 D-22847 v3.19 1.4 3.15 2006/10 0009 631-720 RE-REL V2.1 D-22847 v3.19 1.4 3.15 2006/10 0010 721-810 ORIG V2.1 D-22847 v3.19 1.4 3.15 2007/02 0010 721-810 RE-REL V2.2 D-22847 v3.20 1.4 3.15 2007/02 0011 811-900 ORIG V2.2 D-22847 v3.20 1.4 3.15 2007/04 0012 901-990 ORIG V2.2 D-22847 v3.20 1.4 3.15 2007/07 0013 991-1080 ORIG V2.2 D-22847 v3.20 1.4 3.15 2007/10 0014 1081-1170 ORIG V2.2 D-22847 v3.20 1.4 3.15 2008/02 0015 1171-1260 ORIG V2.2 D-22847 v3.20 1.4 3.15 2008/05 0016 1261-1350 ORIG V2.2 D-22847 v3.20 1.4 3.15 2008/08 0017 1351-1440 ORIG V2.2 D-22847 v3.20 1.4 3.15 2008/11 0018 1441-1530 ORIG V2.2 D-22847 v3.20 1.4 3.15 2009/02 0019 1531-1620 ORIG V2.2 D-22847 v3.20 1.4 3.15 2009/05 0020 1621-1710 ORIG V2.2 D-22847 v3.20 1.4 3.15 2009/08 0021 1711-1800 ORIG V2.2 D-22847 v3.20 1.4 3.15 2009/11 0022 1801-1890 ORIG V2.2 D-22847 v3.20 1.4 3.15 Software Change Log: RDR PRODUCT_VERSION_ID: 1.1 MTES2EDR v3.18: Added RELEASE_ID to label; Changed values for the following keywords: DATA_SET_NAME = "MER# MARS MINIATURE THERMAL EMISSION SPECTROMETER aaa V1.0" (where # is 1 or 2 and aaa is EDR, RDR, BTR, or EMR) INSTRUMENT_HOST_ID = "MER1" or "MER2" INSTRUMENT_NAME = "MINIATURE THERMAL EMISSION SPECTROMETER" PRODUCER_INSTITUTION_NAME = "ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY" RDR PRODUCT_VERSION_ID: 1.2 CALIB_QUBE v3.13: Improved RDR calibration routine to 1) ignore corrupted calibration spectra and 2) remove atmospheric downwelling radiance.
