Therefore pre-launch laboratory measurements have been taken for the esp calibration. The reference channel no.5 is operating in transmission. So the detector can easily detect 122.21keV photons. Values for both reference detectors have been taken from surface operation data. The offset (energy at channel 0) is zero within the error limit. This is guaranteed by extremely low offset main amplifiers. All values apply for a setting of 256 energy channels esp+AF8-window+AF8-width+AD0-16. This setting has not been changed during MER operations. All proportionality factors do have an error in the order of 10+ACU- due to electronic gain shifts, temperature effects etc. Energy spectra were not intended to be used for detection of sample properties but mainly for engineering reasons and coarse functional checkouts.
