Purpose |
This Mars Express OMEGA-HRSC Data Workshop is being held to provide graduate students, post-docs and other Mars investigators with a working knowledge of how to use the Mars Express OMEGA (Observatoire pour la Mineralogie, L’Eau, les Glaces et L’Activite) and HRSC (High Resolution Stereo Camera ) data sets. This workshop will provide:
-Tutorials and hands-on with Mars Express data
-Explore data from ESA Planetary Science Archive
-Use data and tools with instrument science teams
Workshop attendees are expected to supply their own computers equipped with IDL. Attendees are also expected to have a working knowledge of IDL. Workshop attendance will be limited to 25.

The MEX OMEGA/HRSC data workshop will be held Wednesday-Friday, May 21-23, 2008 at the Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences, Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri.

All sessions will be held in room 204. This conference room is on the 2nd floor right off the main lobby directly across from the Mars Exploration Rover life-size model. The conference room has wireless Internet connectivity. An LCD projector and screen for PowerPoint presentations will be provided.

Parking/Hotel Shuttle |
Hotel Parking
Parking at the Crowne Plaza is $6/day for guests. There is complimentary shuttle service from the airport to the hotel from 6 AM until 10 PM daily. We will also arrange shuttle service to the department for one round trip per day. You will need to call the hotel front desk and let them know you plan to utilize the van for transportation to the meeting.
Parking on Campus
Because school will be in summer session, there will be ample parking in the Yellow Zones of the parking lot directly in front of the building. (See campus map) You will need a parking pass. Please contact Margo Mueller and let her know to where she can mail it at least a week before the meeting begins.

Meeting Location
Washington University has 4-5 places on campus to find an adequate lunch. There are also many restaurants in the Delmar Loop area about a 10 minute walk from campus. Since it is summer session some University locations will be closed. The open places are:
Whispers, extensive snack bar in the main Olin Library
The Village, full service cafeteria in dorm area on northwest campus corner
Holmes Lounge, good fresh sandwiches, soup, prepackaged salads, fruit
Kayak’s coffee and food bar (not run by Wash U but located in one of our buildings)

There are numerous eateries all within walking distance of your hotel in Clayton area. Please check your 2008 Community Directory that will be given to you at the meeting to locate the eating place of your choice. Maps of campus will also be distributed at the meeting.
St. Louis Weather |
St. Louis weather in May can be anything. While snow is not a possibility, conditions can range from sunny with mild temperatures in the mid 60-70 degree range to rainy with very cool evening temperatures in the upper 40 degree range.
Transportation |
St. Louis has a light rail/subway system called the Metrolink, operated by the St. Louis transit system called Metro. The Metrolink system also coordinates with the MetroBus system. Maps, schedules, alerts, trip locations, and accessibility can be found at their website: http://tripfinder.metrostlouis.org/ There is a Metrolink station at the airport which goes downtown or to Clayton (with one transfer).
The Metrolink stop nearest to the meeting building is called the Skinker station since it stops at the corner of Skinker and Forest Park Parkway. The stop closest to the meeting hotel is called Clayton and it is the main Clayton stop for the city of Clayton. When exiting Skinker metro station off of the Shrewsbury line, go above ground and you will see the University to your right. Walk across the parking lot, going west and pass the Whitaker Building. The Earth and Planetary Sciences Building is just across Hoyt drive from the Whitaker Building.
