PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = FIXED_LENGTH RECORD_BYTES = 80 OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2000-04-16 NOTE = "Description of contents of DOCUMENT directory " END_OBJECT = TEXT END The DOCUMENT directory contains documentation on the archival data set and files within the data set. Each file is in ASCII, with 80 characters per line. Each line is delimited with a carriage-return (ASCII 13) line-feed (ASCII 10) pair. The files are given in the order recommended for reading. DOCINFO.TXT A brief description of the files within the DOCUMENT directory (this file). PROCSSNG.TXT An overview of the processing used to take the raw data to the final results at Stanford University. Limited primarily to data included in this archive (the 16 minutes surrounding South Pole backscatter on Orbit 234). Included is a description of the file naming convention. LPSC_ABS.LBL Abstract submitted to Lunar and Planetary Science Conference XXXI summarizing attempts to find a scattering function showing enhanced backscatter from the lunar South Pole. This label file points to an ASCII text version of the abstract (LPSC_ABS.TXT) and a version in Adobe Portable Document Format (LPSC_ABS.PDF). Figure 1 is not included in the text version, but it can be constructed from RATIOFNS.TAB in the SORT directory of this archive. DSS14PRF.TXT A brief discussion of performance of the DSS 14 antenna during the Clementine bistatic radar experiment during Orbit 234. Compares actual performance versus what is expected under nominal conditions. DSS14TSY.TXT A discussion of steps taken to obtain system temperature of the DSS 14 system and to correct for changes in system gain during Orbit 234. FNDO.TXT A description of the format of files in the FND directory. This document is an adaptation of a Unix 'man' page. It describes both the header record and data records. DSS43RPT.TXT A summary discussion of factors responsible for changes in carrier level observed during data acquisition at DSS 43. DSS 43 collected data from Orbits 235 and 236. Tables and figures were not available at the time the archive was constructed; but the text remains useful in providing a sense of why various level changes occurred. DSS43TSY.TXT A brief discussion of steps taken to calibrate the system temperature at DSS 43 on orbits following Orbit 234. Since DSS 43 data are not included in this archive and since the DSS 43 calibration was not confirmed by a rigorous reanalysis, these notes should be taken with some caution. MOON_CAL.TXT A brief description of system noise changes between when the DSS 43 antenna was pointed at the center of the Moon and when it was pointed at the limb (South Pole).
