During the course of the MESSENGER mission the GRS science team may update previously released data products or documentation; for example, updates may occur due to changes in calibration data or procedures. Updates will be reported in this file. Older versions of data and documentation will not be retained in the archive. Section A of this file contains an entry for each MESSENGER release (starting with release 5), with general information about the contents of the release, in order from newest to oldest. Updates to previously released files are reported in these entries, along with any known errata. PRODUCT TYPES UPDATED FOR THIS ARCHIVE: GRS RAW, AC, SH, SH2, SH3, and SCR CDRs; GRS RDRs. Notes: 1. This is the final release of this volume which includes a complete redelivery of all calibrated and reduced data products. These have been reprocessed using the final SPICE parameters, all final calibrations and corrections, as applicable, with the following exceptions: - The GRS_ENG and GRS_DAP data products remain unchanged from previous releases. No SPICE, calibrations, or corrections are used in generation of the GRS_ENG data products. Due to their low resolution, the GRS_DAP data products would not benefit from being regenerated. 2. 49 GRS SCR products (GRS_CSC2013348 through GRS_CSC2014031) have been eliminated from the archive. These correspond to times when SCR data weren't being collected by the instrument. 3. 50 GRS SH2 products (GRS_CS22012170 through GRS_CS22012233) that had accidentally been omitted from a previous release are now included. 4. One GRS RDR SUM product (GRS_RSS2011105) has been eliminated from the archive. On 25 February, 2013, new flight software was uploaded to the GRS. The purpose was to optimize the capability of the instrument to characterize neutron emission from Mercury's surface by changing the gain of the shield spectrum. Additionally, a new data product was added (SCR), which produces 10-ms cadence measurements of the total shield count rate. Because the shield responds to charged particles, these measurements represent the highest time cadence samples of the energetic charged particle environment around Mercury. The first several weeks were devoted to parameter optimization, with official data collection beginning on 18 March, 2013. 2. This is the first release of the GRS Shield Count Rate CDR (GRS_CAL_SCR), the GRS Shield 3 CDR (GRS_CAL_SH3), and the GRS Derived Analysis Product (DAP). Please see catalog/cdr_rdr_ds.cat, catalog/dap_ds.cat, and document/grs_cdr-rdr-dap_sis.pdf for more information. 3. All GRS RDRs are redelivered with this release. These data products now exhibit a cutoff date that is more aligned with the good data: 2011-03-24 through 2011-10-11. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- RELEASE NUMBER: 9 RELEASE DATE: 2013-03-08 DATA COVERAGE: CDR, 2012-03-26 to 2012-06-15 (Mercury Orbit Year 2) RDR, 2011-03-24 to 2011-09-28 (Mercury Orbit) PRODUCT TYPES RELEASED FOR THIS ARCHIVE: GRS CDR, GRS RDR PRODUCT TYPES UPDATED FOR THIS ARCHIVE: GRS CDR REASON FOR UPDATES: The BAD_DATA_FLAG column was revised in the CDR data files. Notes: 1. This is the first release of GRS RDRs. The released products are limited to data acquired between March 24, 2011 and September 28, 2011. This restriction is the result of intermittent periods of anomalous low energy counts, which had the effect of reducing the energy resolution of the system. 2. All non-GRS_ENG CDRs are redelivered with this release. The file regeneration was due to changes to the BAD_DATA_FLAG in the data files. 3. GRS_CAL_AC.FMT, GRS_CAL_RAW.FMT, GRS_CAL_SH.FMT, and GRS_CAL_SH2.FMT are redelivered with this release due to a change in the BAD_DATA_FLAG description. 4. Due to failure of the GRS cryocooler, no Ge data collected after June 15, 2012 will be supplied to PDS for archiving. A bug was found in the calibration code, necessitating a need to regenerate all previously delivered CDRs to incorporate the fix. Notes: 1. The PRODUCT_VERSION_ID for the reprocessed EDRs described above has been updated to "V2". 2. All GRS_CAL_RAW, GRS_CAL_AC, and GRS_CAL_SH CDRs have been updated due to a change in METs reported in the CDR data. The GRS FSW has previously been incorrectly assigning the time tag at the end of the integration period instead of at the start of the integration period. The CDR generation software has been updated to report the MET times at the start of the integration period and the CDRs have been regenerated. 3. The format of the GRS SHIELD data product has changed. GRS_SHIELD.FMT applies to spectra taken before the FSW update on September 17, 2010, while GRS_SHIELD_2.FMT applies to spectra taken after the FSW update. See GRS_CDR_SIS.PDF in the DOCUMENT directory for more information. 4. The following EDRs have been deleted from the archive: GRS_CRA2004226.DAT and GRS_CSH2004226.DAT. 5.
