An error was discovered in the photometric normalization section of the calibration pipeline: a missing division-by-2. This is the final release of this volume which includes a complete redelivery of all calibrated and derived data products. These have been reprocessed using the final SPICE parameters, all final calibrations and corrections, as applicable with the following exceptions: - The UVVS HDR CDRs, Surface HDR DDRs, and Atmospheric Model DDRs remain unchanged from previous releases. Please see UVVS_CDR_DS.CAT in the CATALOG directory for more information. While this does impact the CDRs during the listed time periods, the DDRs are not affected since they are filtered prior to release. 5. As in PDS release 13, no UVVS Magnesium LS or LD Atmosphere DDRs are released due to systematic instrument effects. Please see UVVS_DDR_DS.CAT in the CATALOG directory for more information. The release does include revised UVVS Mg NS Atmosphere DDRs for Mercury Years 1-9 and new Mg NS Atmosphere DDRs for Mercury Years 10-18. 6. The file VIRS_DDR_EXCLUDED.TXT in the EXTRAS directory has been updated with this release. For these files the EDRs are available but CDR and DDR products are currently not being delivered. A list of the excluded files can be found in VIRS_CDR_EXCLUDED.TXT and VIRS_DDR_EXCLUDED.TXT, located in the EXTRAS directory. On MET 212889918 (May 3rd at 06:00:49 UTC), a fault protection rule fired and turned MASCS off. Some planned data were not taken, but no observations were truncated due to the event. Analysis concluded a single event upset corrupted operating code, and a power cycling of the instrument restored normal function. 3. Missing packets have been observed in a few VIRS VIS data products for this release. The MASCS team is currently working on a patch. Please see VIRS_MISSING_PACKETS.TXT in the EXTRAS directory for more information. 4. A VIRS calibration improvement was implemented for PDS delivery 6 - temperature based correction of the instrument sensitivity. Correction factors were derived from pre-flight ground-based calibration observations using the VIRS instrument. The relative sensitivity of every pixel of both detectors (VIS and NIR) was characterized at 11 different temperatures and a per-pixel temperature correction was derived. A table of second-order polynomial coefficients was created and is now applied during the calibration process. For every spectrum the temperature derived from the housekeeping data is used to adjust the instrument sensitivity at each pixel before the sensitivity correction is applied to the calibrated DN. The table of coefficients and algorithms for the temperature conversion are included with the other calibration data in VIRS_EDR2CDR.TXT in the DOCUMENT directory of this archive volume. 5. Notes: 1. An independent derivation of the UVVS CDR geometry fields revealed a few discrepancies greater than 0.1 percent, which we note here. Each component of the vector 'PLANET_SC_VECTOR_J2' was found to be smaller than the CDR values by 0.5 percent. The y-components of the vector 'PLANET_SUN_VECTOR_TG' and 'SUN_POSITION_VECTOR_TG' were found to be smaller than the CDR values by 0.4 percent. 2. None of the CDRs for the day 2005-07-31 (UTC) contain valid SPICE geometries. This error was caused by an unknown software bug that is under investigation, but has not yet been fixed. 3. The UVVS SCI CDRs have incorrect values for columns 29, 30, and 31, TARGET_LATITUDE_SET, TARGET_LONGITUDE_SET, AND TARGET_ALTITUDE_SET, respectively. This error is caused by a known software bug that will be corrected in Release 5, scheduled for March 15, 2010. 4. UVVS SCI CDR Moon targets have incorrect values for columns 27 and 28, RA_SET and DEC_SET, respectively. This error is caused by a known software bug that will be corrected in Release 5. 5. All UVVS SCI CDR geometry fields are 4 bytes, however they should be 8 bytes for double precision. This will be corrected in Release 5. 6. The UVVS HDR CDRs have incorrect values for column 23, CALIBRATION_SOFTWARE_VERSION. SOFTWARE_VERSION_ID is also incorrect in the UVVS HDR CDR labels. These values should be '2.0.' All UVVS data delivered in this release were processed with version 2.0 of the calibration software. This error will be corrected in Release 5. 7. As of this release, MASCS_TARGETS.* and UVVS_SCAN_TYPE.* (CALIB directory) are still in development.
