RELEASE NUMBER: 15 RELEASE DATE: 2016-05-06 DATA COVERAGE: 2008-01-07 to 2015-04-30 (Mercury 1 Flyby, Mercury 2 Flyby, Mercury 3 Flyby, Mercury Orbit Year 1, Mercury Orbit Year 2, Mercury Orbit Year 3, Mercury Orbit Year 4, Mercury Orbit Year 5) PRODUCT TYPES RELEASED FOR THIS ARCHIVE: RS RDR PRODUCT TYPES UPDATED FOR THIS ARCHIVE: RS RDR REASON FOR UPDATES: Normal Delivery. 1. No Radio Science advanced products were included in Release Number 14. 2. DATA/OCC/MESS_RS_OCC_V04: The occultation summary product (DATA/OCC/MESS_RS_OCC_V04) is developed from data through April 26, 2015, just prior to the end of the mission. This version contains a full reprocessing of all occultation data using the final reconstructed ephemeris for the mission. 3. The products in this release use the final MESSENGER SPICE parameters which include the revised Mercury reference radius value of 2,439.4 km. 4. Deep Space Network (DSN) DSS-34 station coordinates were used for the location of DSS-35. This difference of a few hundred meters on Earth is not detectable in the occultation results. 5. DATA/SHADR/GTMES_150V05_SHA: There are two sets of occultation data used to construct the final version of the shape model, DATA/SHADR/GTMES_150V05_SHA. The first set is derived from the previously delivered MESS_RS_OCC_V03.CSV data, which is comprised of occultation results from measurements obtained through April 2014 and processed using available (not final) versions of the MESSENGER ephemeris. The second set is derived from occultation measurements acquired between May 2014 and the end of the mission in April 2015. This second set was processed using the final reconstructed ephemeris for the mission. The occultation measurements in the first set of data have since been reanalyzed using the reconstructed trajectory and the average of the difference between the reanalyzed data and the original data is less than 10 meters, a small fraction of the uncertainty in individual occultation measurements. Since the different versions of the ephemeris produced offsets that average less than 10% of the existing uncertainty, the ephemeris used to process the occultations does not have a significant effect on the coefficients of the shape model. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RELEASE NUMBER: 13 RELEASE DATE: 2015-03-06 DATA COVERAGE: 2008-01-07 to 2014-03-17 (Mercury 1 Flyby, Mercury 2 Flyby, Mercury 3 Flyby, Mercury Orbit Year 1, Mercury Orbit Year 2, Mercury Orbit Year 3, Mercury Orbit Year 4) PRODUCT TYPES RELEASED FOR THIS ARCHIVE: RS RDR PRODUCT TYPES UPDATED FOR THIS ARCHIVE: RS RDR REASON FOR UPDATES: Normal Delivery. 1. The occultation summary product (MESS_RS_OCC_V03) is developed from data going up to April 30, 2014. This is an accumulating product. Each delivered version of this product contains new data added to those from the previously delivered version. 2. No gravity model product update (ggmes_*) is included in this release. 3. No Radio Science advanced products were included in Release Number 12. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RELEASE NUMBER: Interim RELEASE DATE: 2014-11-01 DATA COVERAGE: 2008-01-07 to 2014-02-04 (Mercury 1 Flyby, Mercury 2 Flyby, Mercury 3 Flyby, Mercury Orbit Year 1, Mercury Orbit Year 2, Mercury Orbit Year 3) PRODUCT TYPES RELEASED FOR THIS ARCHIVE: RS RDR PRODUCT TYPES UPDATED FOR THIS ARCHIVE: RS RDR REASON FOR UPDATES: Error correction. 1. This new version of the spherical harmonics gravity model incorporates data through 04 February 2014. Compared to earlier models, it includes an improved treatment of radiation pressure and updates to Mercury's ephemeris, pole position, and rotation rate. Mazarico et al. 2014 (in review, citation below) contains a full description of the model and the analyses that produced it. * Erwan Mazarico, A. Genova, G. Sander, F. Lemoine, G. Neumann, M. Zuber, D. Smith, S. Solomon, The gravity field, orientation, and ephemeris of Mercury from MESSENGER observations after three years in orbit, Journal of Geophysical Research, submitted 2014. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RELEASE NUMBER: Interim RELEASE DATE: 2014-04-01 DATA COVERAGE: 2008-01-07 to 2013-04-21 (Mercury 1 Flyby, Mercury 2 Flyby, Mercury 3 Flyby, Mercury Orbit Year 1, Mercury Orbit Year 2, Mercury Orbit Year 3) PRODUCT TYPES RELEASED FOR THIS ARCHIVE: RS RDR PRODUCT TYPES UPDATED FOR THIS ARCHIVE: RS RDR REASON FOR UPDATES: Error correction. 1. The text spherical harmonics shape model product GTMES_120V02_SHA contained some order of magnitude errors in several fields. These fields provide their values in scientific notations. The significand parts of the values were correct, but the power of ten exponent values were off by one resulting in an order of magnitude error. These have all been corrected in this revised version of the product. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RELEASE NUMBER: 11 RELEASE DATE: 2014-03-07 DATA COVERAGE: 2008-01-07 to 2013-04-21 (Mercury 1 Flyby, Mercury 2 Flyby, Mercury 3 Flyby, Mercury Orbit Year 1, Mercury Orbit Year 2, Mercury Orbit Year 3) PRODUCT TYPES RELEASED FOR THIS ARCHIVE: RS RDR PRODUCT TYPES UPDATED FOR THIS ARCHIVE: RS RDR REASON FOR UPDATES: Normal Delivery. 1. The occultation summary product (MESS_RS_OCC_V02) is developed from data going up to April 21, 2013. 2. The ASCII spherical harmonics (SHADR) gravity and shape model products, GGMES_50V05_SHA and GTMES_120V02_SHA respectively, are developed from data going up through April 21, 2013. 3. The binary spherical harmonics (SHBDR) gravity product, GGMES_50V05_SHB, is developed from data going up through April 21, 2013. 4. No Radio Science advanced products were included in Release Number 10. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- RELEASE NUMBER: 9 RELEASE DATE: 2013-03-08 DATA COVERAGE: 2008-01-07 to 2012-09-17 (Mercury 1 Flyby, Mercury 2 Flyby, Mercury 3 Flyby, Mercury Orbit Year 1, Mercury Orbit Year 2) PRODUCT TYPES RELEASED FOR THIS ARCHIVE: RS RDR PRODUCT TYPES UPDATED FOR THIS ARCHIVE: RS RDR REASON FOR UPDATES: Normal Delivery. 1. Initial delivery. No known errors or variances in data product. 2. OCCSUM.TXT: Sec. 1.3 - Applicable Documents, Ref. [4]: A more complete citation will be provided when available. 3. The SPICE kernel earthstns_itrf93_050714.bsp is used for obtaining the locations of DSN stations. It is assumed that these are the correct locations whether that means the antenna feed point or some other point. 4. Gravity field solutions (GGMES_20V_SHA/B) are developed at irregular intervals from batches of data, which do not necessarily match the PDS delivery schedules. The latest solution consisting only of released PDS data (no later than September 17, 2012) is the GGMES_20V04_SHA/B solution, which includes data up to August 01, 2012. The gravity field products contain data collected during the Mercury flybys as well as during the orbital phases. 5. The occultation summary product (MESS_RS_OCC_V01) is developed from data going up to April 29, 2012. The data end on this date because none of the measurements that were taken after this date and up to September 17, 2012 contained sufficient signal strength to process and produce a useable occultation record. ******** SECTION B ******** This section is provided for general notes concerning the archive as a whole.
