Unit 3 (reference, Deschutes_Formation_strat.jpg). Ignimbrite.

High-level Description: Unit 3, a friable, poorly-welded, ashy-matrixed
ignimbrite with lithics entrained. Lithics range from 0.1-2.9 mm in diameter,
are sub-angular, and display a rough, irregular texture. Entraining ash is
sub-resolution in size, sub-angular and light buff.

Texture
  Grain morphology and appearance: Rough, irregular, dark, sub-angular
lithics, entrained in an ash matrix.
  Grain size and sorting: Poorly-sorted lithics averaging .19 to 2.9 mm in
diameter, embedded in an ash, clast-supported matrix. No preferred
orientation.
  Grain fabric:  Polymodal.

Sediment structure:  None.

Color:  Predominantly dark brown and black lithics in a light buff ash.
