Massive lahar with some discrete layering. Sequence from bottom to top displays poorly-sorted layers, massive unit, oxidized layers, crossbeds and vesicular sequence. High-level Description: Cross-bedded subunit lying on the bottom 2 layers of Unit 4. Context image 0892 scale is approximate at 2 mm/pxl. Cross-bedded, fine-grained rock with vesicles ranging in size and depth. Sparsely distributed vesicles 10s of mm in diameter. Cross-bedding is confined to lower layers. Embedded clasts within a fine-grained, primarily gray matrix. Grain size is fairly homogenous at approximately .18-3 mm. Grains are sub-angular. Texture Grain morphology and appearance: Rough, sub-angular tephra grains in a clast-supported matrix. The grains themselves support vesicles within the unit. Grain size and sorting: Poorly-sorted grains averaging about 0.18-3.0 mm, in a clast-supported matrix. Grain fabric: Polymodal. Sediment structure: Cross-bedded lamination. Color: Light and dark grey, black, white and a few red grains.
