Ash supports lapillus-sized (average 1.6 mm diameter) angular to sub-angular smooth grains (scoria). Barbell- and tear-drop-shaped scoria are evident; some grains are glassy. Texture Grain morphology and appearance: Sub-angular lapillus-sized grains mixed with angular coarse ash. Some have glassy texture, most are smooth-textured. Grain size and sorting: Coarse ash (<=0.08 mm) supports lapillus-sized grains 0.4-3.6 mm (average 1.6 mm) in diameter. Grain fabric: Random orientation. Sediment structure: None within individual layers. Color: Black and grey grains, some glassy.
