PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2009-11-15 NOTE = "Sample description" END_OBJECT = TEXT END High-level Description: Glassy scoria. Clasts are ~5 mm in diameter on average, very vesicular and angular. Vesicles are ~1 mm and roughly spherical. Scoria very fresh, with very shiny, glassy surfaces and sharp edges surrounding vesicles, suggesting that it hasn't experienced much chemical weathering. High angularity indicates that scoria was not transported far. Angular, irregularly-shaped clasts have clear fractures, which appear concave and have very sharp points, and vesicles are clearly outlined along the edges of the scoria. Clasts fit together, suggesting post-depositional settling and/ or compaction. Texture Grain morphology and appearance: Very angular, vesicular, glassy scoria clasts in a clast-supported matrix. Grain size and sorting: Poorly-sorted clasts averaging 5 mm diameter Grain fabric: Random orientation. Sediment structure: None evident. Color: Black.
