Fine-grained unconsolidated palagonitic layer within unit 5. Unit is composed of brownish, small sub-spherical grains (less than 1 mm, averaging ~0.5 mm) and other sub-angular to sub-rounded clasts (<0.1 to 0.3 mm), some of which are black angular glass, but many of which are light brown to white grains with smooth to pitted textures. There is no clear layering, but fine grains near the top of the photo grade into slightly larger grains toward the bottom. Texture Grain morphology and appearance: Small, sub-angular to sub-rounded, palagonitized grains in a clast-supported matrix. Grain size and sorting: Poorly-sorted clasts 0.1-0.5 mm diameter. Grain fabric: Random orientation. Sediment structure: None evident. Color: Light-brown and white grains mixed with black glassy particles.
