The bottom of this fining-upward sequence (3725) is a coarse, poorly-sorted accretionary lapilli and ash layer. Clast sizes range from 0.1-3 mm, with most large grains (those greater than 2 mm) toward the bottom. ~60% of clasts are 1 mm or larger, with the rest being an even distribution of progressively smaller clasts. Ash fragments are glassy, dark grey to brown, and sub-angular. The top of this fining-upward sequence (3726-3727) is characterized by well-sorted ash, between 0.08-0.5 mm. There are a few, larger clasts (0.5 mm-1 mm), which comprise about ~2-5% of the material. Ash fragments are black to dark brown, glassy and sub-angular to angular. Texture Grain morphology and appearance: Dark grey granular-textured sub-angular clastics in a brown-grey, glassy ash. Grain size and sorting: Well-sorted, fining-upward ash 0.08-0.5 mm in size supporting 0.5-1 mm diameter clasts. Grain fabric: Random orientation. Sediment structure: Parallel lamination; graded bedding. Color: Grey to brown with a few light tan/white grains.
