PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2009-11-15 NOTE = "Sample description" END_OBJECT = TEXT END High-level Description: Reticulite deposit, located behind Hawai'i Volcanoes Observatory. Samples are ~2 cm diameter at their long axis, light brown glass and very vesicular (~80% void space). Vesicles range in size from 0.1 mm to 2.0 mm, and glass threads between vesicles are ~40-50 micrometers in diameter. Vesicles are spherical, except where they interfere with each other. Vesicles are fairly evenly distributed for most samples. Pumice fragments ~1 cm in diameter are associated with some reticulite samples (3742, 3743); pumice is dark grey with fewer, more isolated vesicles 0.5 mm to 1 mm in diameter, concentrated near the edges of fragments. Texture Grain morphology and appearance: Tan, glassy, fibrous, vesicular reticulite and dark grey pumice. Grain size and sorting: No individual grains. Grain fabric: Fibrous. Sediment structure: None. Color: Tan, glassy, with dark grey pumice.
