Whitish opaline deposits exist as surface coatings in damp areas. Texture Grain morphology and appearance: Angular to very-angular sub-vitreous to vitreous coarse ash in a clast-supported matrix. Fine layers (3746) alternate with coarse layers (3747). Fine layer is clumpy, dun ash with larger, sub-angular black clasts (0.7 mm). Tan clasts are about 0.1 mm and sub-round to round and vitreous; grain surfaces are smooth. Ash clumps are a little larger than black clasts and are irregularly shaped. Coarse ash layer is comprised of black and tan sub-angular particles. Vitreous opal coating up to 5 cm thick, evident as whitish-grey, nodular or crystallized granular-textured surface deposits (3748, 3749) on tan, 1 mm diameter sub-angular clasts. Grain size and sorting: Coarse ash 0.1-1 mm in diameter. Darker grains are approximately 1-2 mm in diameter. A few large (about 1 cm), grey, sub-round pumice clasts with ellipsoid vesicles about 0.3 mm are evident. Individual coating crystals can be up to 0.3 mm diameter. No sorting. Grain fabric: Random orientation. Sediment structure: Parallel lamination. There is no visible layering or textural differences visible at this scale. Color: Brown/tan glassy grains mixed with dark grains (10%). White vitreous opal coating.
