Scoria have black rims that may be a result of weathering, since clasts under the black coating are tan. There is also white precipitate on many clasts. Scoria are fairly vesicular, with some large vesicles, although none are more than 1 cm in diameter. Some scoria clasts are up to 3 cm, but most are 1 cm or smaller. Texture Grain morphology and appearance: Angular to sub-angular scoria, black with some red fragments. There is also significant amounts of white precipitate, which is mostly concentrated on black scoria clasts. Ash is light grey and very finely laminated. There is also some white precipitate on the ash layers. The contact between the scoria and ash (img 3790) is bumpy, and some smaller scoria are incorporated into the top layer of the ash. Some of the top layer of ash is also interrupted by larger scoria fragments. Grain size and sorting: Scoria fragments are 1-5 cm in diameter; grains below this layer are sub-mm in size. Grain fabric: Random orientation. Sediment structure: Very fine parallel lamination present below the coarse scoria layer. Image 3790 shows a bomb sag. Color: Black to tan with several red clasts
