Poorly-sorted sequence of 5-6 discontinuous laminae, comprised of repeating coarse and fine layers of fine and coarse ash. Larger clasts (up to 2 cm) interspersed throughout. Coarse layers are grey, fine are buff. A few olivine grains are also evident. Layer is similar to Unit 6, though very thin fine ash layers are 1-2 mm thick. Coarse layers dominate. Texture Grain morphology and appearance: Small, angular to sub-rounded grains in a clast-supported matrix, organized into laminar layers. Coarse layers are more homogeneous in grain size (1-3 mm) than finer layers, which contain a few larger (0.5-1 mm diameter) grains. Texture is rough and rubbly. Some olivine grains are present. Grain size and sorting: Poorly-sorted clasts, fine- to coarse-ash (0.5-3 mm). Grain fabric: Random orientation. Sediment structure: Parallel lamination. Color: Grey, black, with some green-clear olivine.
