Sub-angular to sub-rounded, poorly-sorted unconsolidated fragments, less than 100 microns to 4 mm in size. Blocky basalt grains dominate. Reflectance is high in natural light. Texture Grain morphology and appearance: Sub-angular to sub-rounded; grains are dull and somewhat rough in texture. Grain size and sorting: Very fine sand up to fine pebbles; very poorly sorted. Average size is 750 microns across. Grain fabric: Random orientation. Sediment structure: none. Color: Dark grey/black (basaltic) grains predominate, though 1-2% are white/tan, reddish or clear (most of these are reddish).
