Particles range from sand-sized to 50 cm boulders. The site contains appoximately 2% particles 50-cm or larger. The majority of surface particles are sub-angular to sub-rounded cobble-sized blocks in the 0.5-1.0 cm range. These anchor the underlying finer-grained material. Finer-grained material was likely mobilized by wind and winnowed out like a desert pavement, transported further downstream. Composition is 98-99% basalt. Vesicular and blocky cobbles are evident. Samples are taken from the bottom of the trench, to avoid contamination with organics.
