This table contains Apollo 17 heat flow
data from probe 2: Heater state and thermocouple temperatures for
probe cable 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Diagrams of the thermocouples in the literature are labelled
inconsistently. It is obvious from the data that the thermocouple
labelled TC1 here is out on the surface, as it undergoes the greatest
temperature variations on all four probe data sets. Likewise the
thermocouple labelled TC4 is obviously the one mounted on the top of
the probe, deepest in the hole, as it undergoes the least temperature
changes and closely matches the temperatures recorded by the probe
sensors in the same location. In many cases, such as in the Apollo 17
Preliminary Science Report, Thermocouple 1 refers to the thermocouple
on top of the probe, follwed by thermocouples 4, 3, and 2 in the cable
in order of distance from the probe. We will use the convention
outlined above for this table.
