This collection contains fixed-width ASCII files of daily raw cleaned science
measurements acquired by the Lunar Ejecta And Meteorites (LEAM) Experiment at the Apollo 17
landing site for the time span of 01 March through 18 July 1976, which were the last 140 days
of LEAM operation. These data were extracted from Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments Package
(ALSEP) normal-bit-rate Work Tape files that contain time-edited and rearranged raw binary
data transmitted from the Moon. The extracted binary data were corrected for obvious bit
errors then transformed to ASCII format for this archive. This collection also includes ASCII
files of LEAM-related command verification and raw analog housekeeping data extracted from the
Work Tape binary files.

cometary debris) taken on the surface of the Moon by the Apollo 17 Lunar Ejecta And Meteorites
Experiment during the time span of 01 March through 18 July 1976, which were the last 140 days
of LEAM operation. The scientific objectives were to measure the speed, direction, total
energy (kinetic and potential), and momentum of primary cosmic dust particles and lunar

including the subsystems for structural/thermal control, electrical power, command, and
telemetry, and each ALSEP experiment. Section 5 describes all command verification codes, and
their functions, used for the ALSEP 5 station and its experiments. Section 6 lists LEAM science
and housekeeping measurements and their operating ranges. Section 8 describes the operational
aspects of LEAM. This handbook was intended for specialized use by Experiment Flight
Controllers in real-time and near-real-time operations of ALSEP 5.
