MER1 (Opportunity) APXS partially processed (RDR) Data Set Description Extracted from PDS3 Data Set Catalog File. Data Set Terse Description ========================== Mars Exploration Rover 1 Alpha Particle X-ray Spectrometer partially processed science and instrument data. Data Set Description ==================== Data Set Overview ================= This APXS (Rieder et al., 2003) data set contains data that is useful for determining the major and minor elemental composition of Martian soils, rocks, and other geological materials that the rover encountered. Processing ========== The APXS x-ray data products were initially generated by the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry, Mainz, Germany and later by the APXS team at the University of Guelph, Guelph, Ontario, Canada. The x-ray spectra were extracted from the raw binary files and converted to ASCII. Any spectra that remained in the instrument's memory from previous analyses were removed from the data product. Data ==== Each APXS X-ray data file is an ASCII comma-delimited table. There 512 rows for each column and each row is terminated with a carriage return and line feed character. Data values are in counts. Reference ========= Rieder, R., R. Gellert, J. Bruckner, G. Klingelhofer, G. Dreibus, A. Yen, and S. W.
