PROCEDURE: A polarized beam was produced using Glan-Taylor prism polarizer to feed a laboratory collimator. Parallel and perpendicular components were measured by rotating the polarizer to place the grating grooves of VIRS first parallel to and then perpendicular to the direction of the incident electric vector. Two sources were used: a standard quartz-halogen lamp, and a fiber lamp with enhanced UV output but no output beyond 850nm. To address the effect of the room lights being on during the experiment, the room lights were turned off and a background and spectrum obtained for the QTH lamp with polarizer at 0degrees.
