PROCEDURE: The instrument was mounted on a 2-axis gimbal aimed at a 45 cm diameter, 229 cm focal length parabolic collimator mirror. A 1064nm wavelength laser-diode was expanded and imaged onto a pinhole located at the collimator focus. The instrument was pointed so that the source image filled the VIRS field-of-view. The objective of this experiment was to measure both the high-signal core of a monochromatic spectral line along with the low-signal wings for both the VIS and NIR channel. To achieve this large dynamic range, neutral density filters were used and the integration time varied. The filter transmission was measured for this wavelength by obtaining non-saturated spectra, varying the integration time with and without the filter in the VIS channel only. Pixels where the core of the spectral line exists are necessarily satured in the spectra meant to characterize the low-signal wings. Dark fields at the same integration time are obtained for every spectral measurement. There are six unique experiment sets: VIS scatter using filter "1", VIS scatter using filter "4", NIR scatter using filter "1", NIR scatter using filter "4", VIS filter "1" transmission measurement, and VIS filter "4" transmission measurement. Filter numbers are arbitrary. 'wings' denotes that an effort was made to increase the signal in all other pixels, and some pixels will be saturated. logical experiment data sets (some data files repeated between sets): vis scatter using filter 1 back_filter1_1sec__* spec_filter1_1sec__* back_nofilter_200ms__* spec_nofilter_200ms__* vis scatter using filter 4 back_filter4_500ms__* spec_filter4_500ms__* back_nofilter_200ms__* spec_nofilter_200ms__* nir scatter using filter 1 back_filter1and4_500ms__* spec_filter1and4_500ms__* back_filter4_500ms__* spec_filter4_500ms__* nir scatter using filter 4 back_filter1and4_500ms__* spec_filter1and4_500ms__* back_filter1_1sec__* spec_filter1_1sec__* vis filter 1 measurement back_filter4_500ms__* spec_filter4_500ms__* back_filter1and4_5sec__* spec_filter1and4_5sec__* vis filter 4 measurement back_filter1_1sec__* spec_filter1_1sec__* back_filter1and4_5sec__* spec_filter1and4_5sec__* NOTE: 'back' denotes a dark field measurement while 'spec' denotes a spectral measurement.
