      The INDEX directory contains an index for this archival volume          
(INDEX.TAB).  Accompanying INDEX.TAB is a PDS label (INDEX.LBL), which        
describes the structure and contents of INDEX.TAB.                            
                                                                              
      Both files are ASCII files.  Each row in INDEX.TAB has 121              
bytes/characters, with an ASCII carriage-return/line-feed pair in             
positions 120 and 121.  Each line in INDEX.LBL has 80 bytes/characters,       
with an ASCII carriage-return/line-feed pair in positions 79 and 80.          
                                                                              
      Each row in INDEX.TAB contains information about a single data          
file in the archive volume.  There are six comma-delimited fixed-length       
columns.  Three columns contain character strings, which are enclosed by      
double quotes.  The other three fields contain date/time information;         
those values are NOT enclosed by quotes.

              name of the data file                                           
              original file name, as received at Stanford                     
              start date/time of the file                                     
              stop date/time of the file                                      
              creation date/time of the file
