Open Loop Data ============== Data Collection --------------- Data have been obtained from the NERT Cache for both ORT-2 (97/193-4) and USO Test #12 (97/198). Details are in the table below. Line 1 was a short interval prior to the ORT when the spacecraft was one-way, but with TLM ON. Lines 2-7 were simulated Mars occultations, alternating between ingress (Lines 2, 4, and 6) and egress. Line 8 is for the USO Test. USO Test data are the first obtained with new DSP software. Anomalies --------- ORT-2 (97/193) -------------- Data from ORT-2 (97/193) were obtained using Reliable Data Delivery, which guarantees no more than 1 lost record in 10000. Our 22 lost records represent an actual loss rate of 1 in 978. Records lost within each time interval were contiguous: records 3083-3085 (Line 3), records 2204-2209 (Line 4), and records 697-709 (Line 6). NB: intervals obtained by our query do not necessarily begin with record 1. Trish Priest has submitted ISA Z43731 on the missing records. DSP and query times did not match TLM mode changes, TWNC changes, and/or RPA power mode changes in most cases. For Lines 2 and 3 the DSP stopped 21-22 seconds before the occultation period ended; Trish Priest reported some problems in rounding DSP times to acceptable values. For Line 3, the DSP started 8 seconds before RPA power ON; for Lines 5 and 7, the DSP started less than 1 second before RPA power ON. These are acceptable, but the variation suggests some difficulty in setting DSP start times. For Line 7, recording stopped 21 sec before the occultation period ended, apparently so the DSP could be reconfigured for Mars Pathfinder support at DSS 14. Amplitude "glitches" are observed in four of the recording intervals. A -2 dB amplitude change occurred near 21:36:36 prior to the ORT; another -2 dB amplitude change occurred near 21:40:48 at the beginning of the first simulated ingress occultation. There was a -13 dB amplitude change near 01:05:24 and a -10 dB change near 02:06:00 during the final pair of simulated occultations. At 1 sec time resolution, all but the first of these events are barely resolvable; there is little detail in our plots that would suggest a cause for the glitches. Otherwise carrier amplitude generally fell within +/-0.1 dB of the mean during 10 minute recording intervals. From interval to interval (after correcting for attenuator changes) the amplitude was easily within +/-0.5 dB of the overall mean. 650 Hz spurs are visible in spectra only during the first interval, when telemetry was ON. Spurs at +/-180 Hz are visible in all spectra where SNR was higher than 50 dB (in 1 Hz bandwidth). There were no spurs of any kind visible in ORT-1 data from DSS 65 (see HEA7191A.TXT). USO Test #12 (97/198) --------------------- Data obtained from the USO Test were obtained in near-real time without using Reliable Data Delivery. The data were then retransmitted -- to fill potential missing records. There were no missing records in the composite file. There were no amplitude glitches in the USO data; variation in amplitude was about +/-0.1 dB around the mean throughout the two-hour test period. There are no 650 Hz spurs in spectra, but +/-180 Hz spurs are visible in all spectra and drift slightly as the carrier signal changes frequency.
