The DSP is running as we speak. The pass will be approximately 8 hours. Do you want to do anything interesting? I have it doing 5000 sps, 2.5kHz data. But, since we have to download it all over a fairly slow line to Stanford, we'd rather see it at 200 sps (with 82 Hz filter). It will take roughly 8 hrs to download 8 hrs of 5000 sps data, whereas the 200 sps data can be obtained in about 15 mins. Joe and Len concur. I have taken about an hour and a half of 5000 sps, but I will change it to 200 sps now. There aren't an spurs today. The signal looks very good. We may have several 8 hour long passes over DSS 25 in December. Although the first file was larger by about 30%, that in no way accounts for the difference in number of missing records. We had discussed the possibility of requesting a retransmission of the data from the station. That might be a useful experiment. I would ask for all of both runs. We could then see (1) whether we recover any of the lost records; (2) if so, which ones -- and whether we lose any new ones; and (3) whether the loss rate (which seems strongly dependent on sampling rate in near-real time) is any different on playback. For interpretation purposes, it's worth noting that these two sampling rates also correspond to the largest and smallest block sizes for electronic transmission. If you can get a retransmission, let me know when the packets have been delivered and I'll repeat my queries. Based on the amount of time that it took, I don't think that the 5000 sps data was on the disk anymore. The 200 sps data seemed to retransmit fine. I asked the DSP to retransmit the whole data set. I started on the integer second before the value in the table and ended on the integer second after. (My table is in the other room.) But this is not a good sign for data integrity. It indicates that the DSP lost these four records. I'll submit a query for the 5000 sps data; if, as you suspect, there wasn't any to retransmit, the query won't take long. In any case, it shouldn't be more than a couple hours. Dick
