We have done so and the results are shown in the table below. The original files (10301847.ODR and 10301847.PS1) will be retained in the data collection, but a note will be entered in the ERRATA.TXT file on the archive CD suggesting users work with 10301849.ODR and 10301849.PS1 instead. Occultations 8584i-8587i (DSS 25, start times 2001/038-11:12:00 through 17:05:00) appear to have been lost because of the timing problem identified in yesterday's report (HEA1038A.TXT; also now documented in ISA Z70922). The power amplifier was turned off 6 seconds before geometric occultation on 8587i (see figures HEA1039A.PS1 and HEA1039A.PS2). The error in the predicted occultation time increased from about 41 s the previous day to about 47 s for 8587i. If the change in the error was constant over previous days, occultations on days 2001/035 and earlier may still be usable for science. Occultations 8592i and 8593i (DSS 65, start times 2001/039-02:54:00 and 04:52:00) may be compromised because of a power supply problem in the maser. Carrier signals are surrounded by spurs as strong as -25 dBc at +/-60 Hz and harmonics thereof. Similar problems were seen in data collected through DSS 65 on 2001/034 (see HEA1036A.TXT). Occultation 8594i (DSS 65, start time 2001/039-06:49:00) was lost, apparently because of troubleshooting the maser problem noted above. The spacecraft was not tracked between 06:27 and 07:00. DR L005042 was filed by operations personnel. Occultation 8595i (DSS 65, start time 2001/039-08:47:00) was captured using an X-HEMT amplifier instead of the maser. SNR was about 6 dB below normal (and about 6 dB below what was seen with the spurs present). Although a new SOE was in place for occultations 8592i-8595i, the problems described above prevented our checking whether the timing error had been corrected. We have seen no obvious timing problems in data collected at DSS 25 today (8596i-8598i, start times 2001/039-10:45:00 through 14:40:00). The observed occultation time on 8598i differed from the SOE predicted time by less than 2 s (mm112a.05.tsoe). These SRA noise levels were observed on DOY 032 03:40 to 10:15 UTC and DOY 034 04:40 to 10:30 UTC for DSS 65 and on DOY 034 20:30 to DOY 035 00:35 UTC and DOY 035 20:00 to DOY 036 00:30 UTC for DSS 45. Telemetry (TLM) phase modulation was commanded on at 17.1751 hrs. The transponder and power amplifier (RPA) were commanded off at 17.1756 hrs; actual termination of transmissions appears to have taken another 2 s. Predicted occultation time based on SOE mm111b.04.tsoe (1035039D.SOE) was 17.1648 hrs; actual occultation was at 17.1778 hrs (see HEA1039A.PS2) -- about 47 s later. HEA1039.PS2: Actual occultation time can be estimated by finding the intersection of the carrier (horizontal line near 1250 Hz) and surface echo (diagonal line in upper right) frequency trajectories. They merge at the time of geometric occultation -- 640.2 s after 17:00:00, or 17.1778 hrs, almost 6 seconds after the spacecraft power amplifier (RPA) had been turned off.
