PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2001-04-02 NOTE = "MGS RST Instrument Health Report HEA1092A.TXT" END_OBJECT = TEXT END Miscellaneous ============= Joe Twicken has processed open loop data collected since a disk was replaced at SPC 10 in the open loop data acquisition system. His report: I used trajectory predicts to process all of the open-loop recordings at SPC 10 from 2001/085-088. As far as I can tell, there were no sawtooth problems in the 11 recordings that I processed. As Dick mentioned, we have not seen a sawtooth since 2001/073. The absence of sawtooth problems in recordings on these few days therefore does not prove at all that anything at SPC 10 has been "fixed". Sami Asmar has forwarded the following (slightly edited) report from the MGS office: The spacecraft continued nominal extended mission operations last week. Twice weekly sequences were uploaded and successfully executed by the spacecraft. MGS has performed 4 Roll Only Targeted Observations (ROTO) since the last status report, bringing the total number of ROTOs to 40. Analysis of the minimum-fuel-use spacecraft test shows a consumption of 15 gm/day vs. the present 36 gm/day in an orientation which allows science data acquisition. While this rate is higher than a predicted storage mode (4 gm/day), transition to this operation by July 2001 would permit continuous data gathering through the first half of 2004 including Mars Exploration Rover (MER) descent relay support. Another improvement for fuel conservation was implemented on March 29. Momentum dumping is constrained to scripted times and locations in the orbit. Coincident with this change was a return to Solar Array stepping from a 4-motion strategy to a 3-motion strategy. This will extend the life of the solar array gimbals and may reduce solar array noise effects upon TES data. Beginning next week, two more Radio Science pitchover maneuvers will be attempted to obtain sets of Southern Hemisphere egress occultations until the Beta Supplement geometry ends June 20. A MOC star focus calibration will also be performed in April. The automated script did not run. 193s of pre-ingress data were lost, but there is about 90s of carrier baseline before ingress. The query for data from occultation 9243i (DSS 25, start time 2001/092- 08:21:00) was delayed 70s to skip over a late attenuator change. There is almost 4 minutes of carrier baseline before ingress. Data from occultation 9246i (DSS 25, start time 2001/092-14:14:00) appear to have been lost because the attenuator was reduced 11 dB about 60s before ingress. This raised the input level to the analog-to-digital converter well above its nominal range, causing the ADC to become saturated. Data from occultation 9243i (start time 2001/092-08:21:00) were captured at both DSS 65 and DSS 25. For the third consecutive Monday, all weekend open-loop data have been accounted for. No calls were required to Data Control.
