PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2001-06-29 NOTE = "MGS RST Instrument Health Report HEA1180A.TXT" END_OBJECT = TEXT END Errata ====== Yesterday's report (HEA1179A.TXT) noted that Tim Smith had reported circular buffer errors. The affected occultation should have been 10307i rather than 10307e. In either case, no problems have been noted at the quick-look level of processing. Three days ago (HEA1177A.TXT) we reported that the first five occultations at DSS 45 on 2001/169 were lost because of sawtooth problems. Subsequent analysis showed that the remaining three occultations were also lost, and that all five occultations on 2001/170 at DSS 45 were lost. Joe Twicken has since processed the DSS 45 data from the next three days as well as data from day 177 (using an SPK predict file). He has not found any additional bad data. In the meantime, Sal Abbate has begun to looked into the problem at JPL. Tim Smith has scanned operations logs and not found any of the usual messages associated with sawtooth behavior. Miscellaneous ============= The following prediction files are large and will be maintained on-line for only a short time. OPT: optg_m_010628-011227_010629 1179361A.OPT SPK: spk_m_010628-010927_010629 1179270A.SPK SPK: spk_m_010927-011227_010629 1270361A.SPK Since the end of Beta Supplement operations, strong surface echoes have been less common. And, when they do occur, they tend to appear at egress more often than at ingress. This may be due to several factors, but a slight offset of the antenna pointing seems the most likely explanation -- illuminating the surface slightly more at ingress during Beta supplement and slightly more during egress since. This is consistent with our observations of stronger egress surface echoes during the 1999 opposition. Tim Smith reports that the SPC server failed during that observation. Data from occultation 10310e (DSS 45, start time 2001/179-13:26:00) have not been found, presumably a result of the same problem. We have thrown away the (noise) data collected from 10309i.
