Open Loop Data ============== Analysis -------- Joe Twicken has completed his comparison of data collected using 8-, 12-, and 16-bit samples. These new data were collected with spacecraft telemetry OFF, whereas data collected on 2001/284 had telemetry ON and a lower SNR. Joe's (slightly edited) report: I have processed the ODR and 8 RSR's recorded from 2001/319-17:42:15 to 2001/319-18:09:15, and calculated the Allan deviation for each recording. The ODR was recorded at 5 kHz with 12 bits/sample (real only). The RSR's were recorded at 1, 2, 4 and 8 kHz with 8 bit I/8 bit Q (complex) and with 16 bit I/16 bit Q. The results between ODR and RSR are comparable; the ODR Allan deviation is slightly better at the two longest integration times. The Allan deviation calculations for ODR and RSR's are included below. Telemetry was off for this test, and the SNR during the recording interval was approximately 56 dB/Hz. Even with this SNR, there is essentially no differencence in Allan deviation between the 8- and 16-bit RSR recordings. There is also no significant difference between the various RSR sampling rates. I have also investigated whether there was any difference in the Allan deviation when data were filtered before steering as compared with data that were steered before filtering. There is not.
