PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2002-03-05 NOTE = "MGS RST Instrument Health Report HEA2064A.TXT" END_OBJECT = TEXT END Miscellaneous ============= The following has been composed from messages sent by Gene Brower, MGS Mission Manager, and Sami Asmar, MGS Radio Science Experiment Rep. Over the weekend, recovery of the nominal attitude was complicated by the contingency mode script (enabled after 24h in C-mode) which cycles the transponders (1,2) and LGA receivers (1,2) every 100 minutes. This variability was in addition to the 42 minute coning period and occultation interruptions every orbit. Memory readouts were completed Sunday, confirming the Sun monitor tripping of C-mode entry on 2002-058T20:54:50 following the reaction wheel scale factor update. On Monday the MGS spacecraft was pointed in the sun's direction with the HGA offpointed 10 deg from Earth. The next step in the recovery process was to begin rotation to enable the STAREX convergence and return to nadir orientation. DSS 63 antenna tracking was be used with the LGA until this configuration was reached mid-morning Tuesday (today). Then, HGA uplink and downlink communications and normal nadir operations could resumed with 34-m support. There will be a MGS Recovery Status Meeting at 3:30 pm PST today on the MGS MeetMe Line 818-393-4544.
