The files above were collected using RSR2A with the 'old' software. They have been downloaded for comparison with the RSR1A files. No new anomalies were identified after the RSR2A quick-look processing. Four occultations were captured at both DSS 63 and DSS 65 (occultations 14309i through 14312i with start times 2002/141-14:24:00 through 20:17:00). We experienced difficulty downloading the DSS 65 data; those problems have since been resolved and we will include the results in our next report. The carrier level in the first occultation captured at DSS 63 (occultation 14306i, start time 2002/141-08:31:00) was unstable over the first 1-2 minutes of the recording. Cause for this behavior is unknown, but the anomalies disappeared well before ingress so should not affect the science value of these data. Data collected from DSS 63 occultations 14307i and 14309i (start times 2002/141-10:28:00 and 14:24:00) had +/-0.5 dB random fluctuations in the carrier amplitude. Data collected from DSS 63 occultation 14310i (start time 2002/141-16:22:00) had a -0.5 dB dip in the carrier amplitude over 30 s that ended about 90 s before ingress. The last measurement from DSS 63 (occultation 14312i, start time 2002/141-20:17:00) had both SNR and gain levels 5 dB lower than expected with a -2 dB ramp in the carrier amplitude over the measurement. We had earlier recommended a 4 dB RSR gain change to compensate for increasing Earth-Mars distance. That appears to have been intruduced, but the results are variable. With respect to a nominal carrier amplitude about 5 dB below full scale at the input to the analog-to-digital converters, we have the following for the most recent recordings at DSS 15 and DSS 45. The levels on the first DSS 15 occultation and the two occultations at DSS 45 are too high. The other three are too low, but the deteriorating SNR suggests that factors other than the gain setting may have been involved. Px/No from the RSR header was 52 in all cases (compared with 56 several days earlier).
