All four measurements from DSS 65 were duplicates of measurements from DSS 63, which were listed in yesterday's health report. Data collected from DSS 65 occultation 14311i (start time 2002/141-18:19:00) had a -1 dB step in the noise level about 90 seconds after ingress. Data from DSS 65 occultation 14312i (start time 2002/141-20:17:00) had a -1 dB dip in the carrier amplitude lasting about 20 s, ending about 5 min before ingress. This occultation (14312i) was captured by two other antennas (DSS 63 and DSS 15), neither of which showed the same feature. Data from occultation 14326i (DSS 15, start time 2002/142-23:45:00) have stable carrier levels (less than +/-0.1 dB variations) for the first two minutes, then unstable carrier amplitudes (+/-0.4 dB) for the remaining five minutes before ingress. After ingress, the noise is unstable at about the +/-0.4 dB level for the remainder of the recording. His report follows: I have investigated the frequency stability of a number of open-loop RSR recordings from 2002/136-137. The recordings were acquired simultaneously with RSR1 using new software installed on 2002/134 at each SPC and RSR2 with existing and established software. Results of quick look processing for the two sets of recordings were essentially indistinguishable. I used the latest NAV trajectory reconstruction (spk_m_020511_OD14186-14272_rec_V1) for the Allan deviation computations. The results may be found in the tables below. For the comparison, I selected the recording with the highest SNR from the middle of each of the four passes over the two-day period where data were recorded with both RSR1 and RSR2. Based on these measurements of Allan Deviation, I fail to see any significant difference between the performance of RSR1 with the new DSI 6073-OP-B Ver 3.2 software and RSR2 with the existing software. There was no appreciable difference in stability between the two RSR's at any integration time for any of the occultations. Furthermore, the small differences in stability do not seem to consistently favor one RSR over the other.
