In this report we treat data collected on RSR1 as the "original" measurements and data collected on RSR2 as the "redundant" measurements. As described in detail in yesterday's health report (HEA2154A.TXT) we have seen unexpected differences in the "original" and "redundant" measurements on DOY 152 for four measurements made at DSS 65 from about 13:00 to 20:00 GMT. All four differences were characterized by oscillation in the amplitude of the carrier signal on RSR1 but not on RSR2. In the measurements included in today's health report, we continue to see similar oscillating carrier amplitude differences between the RSR1 and RSR2 data for all four measurements collected in parallel at DSS 65 on DOY 153 from about 10:30 to 20:20 GMT. The DSS 65 pass overlapped with a DSS 15 pass from DOY 153 14:50 to DOY 154 03:45, however the first measurement with an oscillating carrier on DSS 65 occurred before the DSS 15 pass began (occultation 14455i, start time 2002/12:53:00). This implies that the differences do not involve interference between two different antennas. We have not seen any problems yet with redundant data collected on RSR1B and RSR2B, only on RSR1A and RSR2A. We have also noticed similar oscillating carrier amplitudes in RSR1A data collected using DSS 54 for one out of four measurements on DOY 154 (occultation 14468i, start time 2002/154-14:23:00). There were no oscillations in data acquired using RSR2A. Quick-look processing showed +/-0.1 dB oscillations with a period on the order of 5-6 seconds when 1 second average sample power values were plotted against time. However, when we plotted 0.1 sec average points, the amplitude jumped to +/-0.5 dB and the period was very clearly 1.2 sec. We suspect previous conclusions that "high-frequency" oscillations were of low amplitude may be in error. We have forwarded plots of the 0.1 sec results to Aseel Anabtawi and she has passed them to the RSR engineers. To check the possibility that DSS 65 data, collected using RSR1B, on 2002/154 might be corrupted, we plotted those results with 0.1 sec averaging and found nothing unusual. All other "original" and "redundant" measurements collected from DOY 152 through DOY 154 were within the expected range of similarity to each other (i.e., minor differences in noise and sampling). Measurements collected in parallel are listed in the table below: Occultation Start Date/Time DSS RSR #1 RSR #2 Same? ----------- ----------------- ----- ------ ------ ----- 14443i 2002/152-13:20:00 63 RSR1B RSR2B Yes 14444i 2002/152-15:18:00 63 RSR1B RSR2B Yes 14445i 2002/152-17:15:00 63 RSR1B RSR2B Yes 14446i 2002/152-19:13:00 63 RSR1B RSR2B Yes 14447i 2002/152-21:11:00 25 RSR1A RSR2A Yes 14448i 2002/152-23:09:00 25 RSR1A RSR2A Yes 14449i 2002/153-01:06:00 25 RSR1A RSR2A Yes 14450i 2002/153-03:04:00 25 RSR1A RSR2A Yes 14455i 2002/153-12:53:00 65 RSR1A RSR2A No 14456i 2002/153-14:51:00 65 RSR1A RSR2A No 14457i 2002/153-16:48:00 65 RSR1A RSR2A No 14458i 2002/153-18:46:00 65 RSR1A RSR2A No 14456i 2002/153-14:51:00 15 RSR1A RSR2A Yes 14457i 2002/153-16:48:00 15 RSR1A RSR2A Yes 14458i 2002/153-18:46:00 15 RSR1A RSR2A Yes 14459i 2002/153-20:44:00 15 RSR1A RSR2A Yes 14460i 2002/153-22:41:00 15 RSR1A RSR2A Yes 14461i 2002/154-00:39:00 15 RSR1A RSR2A Yes 14462i 2002/154-02:37:00 15 RSR1A RSR2A Yes 14463i 2002/154-04:35:00 45 RSR1A RSR2A Yes 14464i 2002/154-06:32:00 45 RSR1A RSR2A Yes 14465i 2002/154-08:30:00 54 RSR1A RSR2A Yes 14466i 2002/154-10:28:00 54 RSR1A RSR2A Yes 14467i 2002/154-12:26:00 54 RSR1A RSR2A Yes 14468i 2002/154-14:23:00 54 RSR1A RSR2A No 14469i 2002/154-16:21:00 65 RSR1B RSR2B Yes 14470i 2002/154-18:19:00 65 RSR1B RSR2B Yes 14471i 2002/154-20:16:00 65 RSR1B RSR2B Yes The measurements that had oscillation in the carrier amplitude on RSR1A and not on RSR2A are summarized below, using 1 second averaging for plotting.
