Open Loop Data ============== Data Collection --------------- We have transferred the following RSR open loop data to Stanford: YYYY/DDD DSS RSR RSR CH KSPS BT REC RECS RSR MAX START STOP ID RS LEN FILE NAME SNR -------- --- -------- -------- --- -- ---- -- ----- ----- ------------ ----- 2002/170 15 14:58:00 15:09:00 3 1 2 16 8260 661 21701458.RSR 48.0 2002/170 15 16:56:00 17:06:00 3 1 2 16 8260 601 21701656.RSR 48.5 2002/170 15 18:54:00 19:04:00 3 1 2 16 8260 601 21701854.RSR 47.7 2002/170 15 20:51:00 21:02:00 3 1 2 16 8260 661 21702051.RSR 49.1 2002/170 15 22:49:00 23:00:00 3 1 2 16 8260 661 21702249.RSR 50.3 2002/171 15 00:47:00 00:57:00 3 1 2 16 8260 601 21710047.RSR 50.6 2002/171 15 02:44:00 02:55:00 3 1 2 16 8260 661 21710244.RSR 48.6 Anomalies --------- Data from occultations 14667i and 14668i (DSS 15, start times 2002/170- 20:51:00 and 22:49:00) have +/-0.3 dB 120 second sinusoidal modulation on the carrier before ingress. Signal levels on occultations 14667i through 14669i (DSS 15, start times 2002/170-20:51:00 through 2002/171-00:47:00) are 1-2 dB too high; there may be minor clipping on the last two. Analysis -------- Joe Twicken completed additional tests on RSR data about 10 days ago. His report (slightly edited) follows: I have investigated the frequency stability of a few open-loop RSR recordings from 2002/150-151. The recordings were acquired simultaneously using RSR1 (or RSR3 at DSS 25) and RSR2 with upgraded software. Results of quick look processing for the two sets of recordings were essentially indistinguishable. That conclusion may now be extended to estimates of USO frequency and Allan Deviation from more sophisticated analyses. Note that on days 152-154 signficant differences in the quick look results were seen at SPC 60; those data are not covered here. I used the latest NAV trajectory reconstruction (spk_m_020527_OD14385- 14430_rec_V1) to make the Allan deviation computations for the DOY 150-151 recordings. The results may be found in the tables below. For the comparison, I selected a recording with high SNR from the middle of each of the passes over the two-day period where data were successfully recorded with both primary and secondary RSR's. There was no difference between the weighted USO frequency estimate from each RSR for any of the recordings. Based on that and the measurements of Allan Deviation, I see no significant difference between the performance of primary RSR (1/3) and secondary RSR (2) with upgraded software on these dates. There was no appreciable difference in stability between the two RSR's at any integration time for any of the occultations. Furthermore, the small differences in stability do not seem to consistently favor one RSR over the other.
