We have since been advised that MAPGEN software failed to insert radio science configuration commands into the spacecraft sequence because of a day boundary bug. Absence of those commands in the SOE meant no subsequent activities were triggered, including set up of the ground radio science equipment, and the observation was lost. Pauline Hwang and Steve Odiorne are following up with the investigation. 2297153J.RSR was shown in yesterday's report (HEA2301A.TXT) as the first open-loop data file captured. Usually 'J' would indicate that a previous file starting at the same time had already been entered into our data base (from the same or an earlier DSN pass) as 22971539.RSR. In this case, there is no such earlier file. An error in the data base (since corrected) caused the naming anomaly. We have documented the problem in the ERRATA.TXT file in the raw data archive.
