There was a +0.5 dB ramp in the free-space carrier amplitude over the four minutes prior to ingress for the second measurement captured by DSS 65 (occultation 17804i, start time 2003/062-10:32:00). The following occultations had small random fluctuations in the free-space carrier amplitude: Occultation Start Date/Time DSS Comments ----------- ----------------- ----- ------------------------- 17794i 2003/061-11:09:00 15 +/-0.3 dB random fluct 17795i 2003/061-12:57:00 15 +/-0.3 dB random fluct 17797i 2003/061-16:53:00 15 +/-0.3 dB random fluct 17809i 2003/062-16:25:00 15 +/-0.3 dB random fluct Analyses -------- Joe Twicken has completed his analysis of test data collected in early February for characterizing USO stability on time scales longer than usually possible with occultation data. Joe's (slightly edited) report: One-way open loop data were acquired at DSS 63 (with telemetry on) during two MGS orbits on 2003/036 for the purpose of characterizing "long-term" USO frequency stability. These recordings did not include occultations and permitted the calculation of meaningful Allan deviations at integration times up to approximately two minutes. Results from the processing of these recordings are in the tables below. The Allan deviation measurements at the shortest integration times (up to 2 seconds) are worse than we have been seeing in the regular occultation recordings because the SNR was reduced substantially with telemetry modulation on. There was no attempt to compensate for HGA motion in the processing of these recordings.
