PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2003-03-24 NOTE = "MGS RST Instrument Health Report HEA3083A.TXT" END_OBJECT = TEXT END Miscellaneous ============= Because of the weekend, this is the first report since HEA3080A.TXT. Because of reduced staffing this week (break between academic quarters at Stanford) and an increase in software and operations problems, there may be health reports on only some of the five days. It appears that we have not been processing DNS Monitor data from DSS 65 since about 2003/046. The queries are successful, but our software fails during execution of query2plot, one of the JPL utilities provided on the SOPC. Data from other stations have been affected, but we have not established the pattern. We continue to get 'good' data from DSS 14, for example, while we have nothing over the past month from DSS 65. We submitted ISA Z79921 Saturday. Today Pat Dubon, following up at the request of Jesse Glance, confirmed that the problem is connected with the NSP implementation. Unfortunately, to upgrade the SOPC software means that we will not be able to process data from stations (such as DSS 14) that are yet under NSP. Pat is investigating options in which the software could be run in two modes. At Stanford the DSN Monitor data are used primarily to monitor performance of the ground stations during MGS passes. The Tsys measurements are used for amplitude calibration of bistatic radar (surface scattering) data. For other NSP-related issues affecting closed loop (radiometric) data see 'Anomalies' under Closed Loop Data below. SNR for the data from occultation 18051i was also about 2 dB below normal, perhaps a result of low elevation angle. Ordinarily, the date is given as a two-digit number in the ODF; but the value '2003' was found in the defective files. Files with 'demo' or 'DEMO' in the Original File Name comprise data collected during NSP demonstrations at single DSN antennas. These data are usually collected using NSP at one antenna while a second antenna at the same complex (in either NSP or the predecessor system) collects data in parallel. It is impossible to run NSP in parallel with the old system at a single antenna. Usually two NSP demonstrations are conducted at an antenna before NSP is declared operational; all subsequent passes at that antenna (typically starting 7-10 days later) are NSP passes. ODF's have historically been derived from ATDF's; under NSP, ODF's are being derived from the TRK-2-34 product using different algorithms and software. TRK-2-34 data are being collected at Stanford, but there is no operational label generating software yet; so the data files are being held while the remaining software issues are resolved.
