PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2003-08-26 NOTE = "MGS RST Instrument Health Report HEA3238A.TXT" END_OBJECT = TEXT END Errata ====== The following statement appears in HEA3230A.TXT. All except the comment regarding +/-180 Hz spurs was incorrect. In fact, telemetry modulation was turned on about 3 minutes 30 seconds after egress (-16 dB change in carrier level), then 40 seconds later the HGA was moved off Earth point to avoid operation in an excluded zone. Reason for the anomalous report is not known. All four egress measurements collected by DSS 45 on day 229 had a +10 dB step in ADC input levels (the step brought the signal up to normal levels) at about 5 minutes before egress. Measurements affected include occultations 19852e through 19855e, with start times 2003/229-14:29:00 through 2003/229-20:22:00. All egress measurements also had weak +/-180 Hz spurs. Miscellaneous ============= Mars will make its closest approach to Earth at roughly 10:00 AM GMT (3:00 AM Pacific) tomorrow. It will be 34.6 million miles away, the closest it has been (and, other things being equal, offering the highest signal-to- noise ratios for radio science experiments) in about 60,000 years.
