The amplitude is typically a few tenths of a dB and has the shape of one cycle of a sine wave. It lasts about 30 seconds. In doing more detailed processing, Joe Twicken has discovered an associated frequency artifact, which will have some impact on our ability to retrieve atmospheric profiles. And we have also correlated the anomaly with solar array commands on the spacecraft (for example, at 2003/308- 07:35:41 ERT). We have noted similar solar array interference before (see HEA2009A.TXT), but in the previous instance the anomaly drifted through the egress period and disappeared. In the present case, there is no evidence that the interference is changing its position with respect to egress. There is an additional frequency anomaly much closer to egress which does not appear to have a corresponding amplitude fluctuation; we are still attempting to characterize this second feature. We are routinely collecting only egress measurements since the high-gain antenna rewind begins about 5 minutes before ingress. We collect approximately one ingress per day to monitor the HGA rewind effects. All egress measurements from DSS 26 on day 309 had a "skirt" around the carrier frequency (+/-200 Hz, ~15 dB above the noise level) as well as +/-60 Hz spurs and uplink ramp leakage (occultations 20824e through 20827e, with start times 2003/309-01:10:00 through 2003/309-07:03:00). The first measurement from DSS 26 on day 309 was too short; the measurement ended only three minutes after egress. Cause is unknown, (occultation 20824e, with start time 2003/209-01:10:00). The first measurement scheduled from DSS 43 on day 309 had no signal since it occurred about 1 hour before the scheduled start of tracking (orbit number 20827e, with start time 2003/309-07:03:00). This measurement was successfully collected by DSS 26, however. All egress measurements from DSS 43 on day 309 had +/-180 and +/-300 Hz spurs as well as uplink ramp leakage (occultations 20828e through 20831e, with start times 2003/309-14:54:00).
