In most cases, existing procedures had to be modified because of changes in our SOPC and its connections to Stanford. See additional thoughts at the end of this section on how the data are being collected during this catch-up period and what we expect for the future. NB: there was no report yesterday (it would have been HEA4013A.TXT) simply because we were overwhelmed by data. The engineering data, summarized in the table immediately below, were collected using the SOPC and processed using a combination of JPL and Stanford software. These are notable only in that we have them - for the first time in nearly a month. The final SOPC files needed for processing were installed yesterday morning by JPL, and we completed a little patching in our own routines later in the day. We are hoping, over the next few days, to capture several weeks worth of additional engineering data (and DSN monitor data, which has many similarities) by carrying out queries on JPL workstations - which will be much faster than querying from Stanford. About five days of spacecraft engihneering and DSN Monitor will fill a CD, so CD production will be the limiting factor in catching up on engineering and monitor data. The open loop (RSR) data bring us to the end of 2003. Aseel Anabtawi has provided information on RSR operations early in January. These data will fill several more CD's. The closed loop and ancillary data are essentially current as of this report, except for the TNF data type (not shown here) which will fill several more CD's; the procedure for acquiring TNF's is stable and the only requirement is time and CDs for archive. We looked for a new spacecraft clock conversion file, but apparently none has been issued since November, meaning the last file we collected (TSC00052.SCK) remains valid. Because JPL has reacted very cautiously to restoring the shared disk and file transfer connections we used before the intrusion, we have moved virtually all of our data collection to the Stanford side of the protective router. We have identified paths by which we can access workstations at JPL (protected by the OSSH firewall) which can execute queries and transfer files from directory trees. At present it is convenient to PROCESS the spacecraft engineering and DSN monitor data on the SOPC; but we believe we can ACQUIRE it either by means of SOPC queries or by going to these remote workstations, transferring the files to Stanford, and moving them to the SOPC for processing. All other file types can be obtained and processed (some more easily than others) without having to resort to the SOPC. At present, our only option for writing CDs is on the SOPC, and our only option for distributing data is through magellan (our main Stanford computer). We are transferring files between the two machines using 8 mm cartridge tape - using a tape drive borrowed from magellan and less convenient than when we had shared disk and a router connection, but functional. An advantage of the new arrangement is that we can take advantage of the security procedures required by JPL on their own machines (e.g., the OSSH firewall) without necessarily having to implement and maintain the same level of security here (for which we are not really staffed or funded). Some rough edges remain, but we will work on those over the next few weeks and hopefully should be back to a smooth (albeit different and probably slower) operation by the end of January. 721 40010655.RSR 57.2 Anomalies --------- The second to last measurement in today's health report is an ingress measurement that indicates HGA rewind still falls about 3 minutes before ingress (occultation 21523i, start time 2004/001-06:26:00). As noted earlier (HEA4012A.TXT), we understand from LMA that the HGA rewind will continue to interfere with ingress measurements until the first week in February. We will monitior ingress measurements sparingly until then. We continue to see small amplitude fluctuations in the ADC input level over about 1 minute for all egress measurements. This has been attributed to solar panel adjustments, which change the attitude of the spacecraft slightly. The second to last measurement from DSS 24 on day 364 had a +3 dB jump in the noise level that ended about 1 minute before egress (occultation 21498e, start time 2003/364-03:54:00). The first measurement from DSS 34 on day 365 did not capture egress as it started 30 m before the scheduled start of tracking (number 21510e, 2003/365- 03:27:00).
