PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2004-01-15 NOTE = "MGS RST Instrument Health Report HEA4015A.TXT" END_OBJECT = TEXT END Miscellaneous ============= Mars Express has reported interference, apparently coming from MGS uplink ranging modulation. LMA has proposed suspending ranging during the 18-25 January time frame, and possibly beyond. Jesse Glance has requested an impact statement from MGS Radio Science. For more information, see the two e-mails appended to this report. Dale Howell (LMCO) reports the spacecraft fuel and mass status as follows (note that there appears to be a gap, as our previous report was for the period ending 2003/335 - see HEA3335A.TXT): For the period 2003/345 to 2004/003: ----------------------------------- 18.30001 Kg Hydrazine at start (2003/345) 18.20824 Kg Hydrazine Remaining (2004/003) 5.26 kg Hydrazine Unusable 12.9482 kg Usable Hydrazine Remaining 0.09177 kg used over last 23 days. Average daily usage: 3.99 g/day Spacecraft Mass = 674.52 Kg (dry mass) + 5.29 Kg (Ox) + 18.208 Kg (Fuel) = 698.018 Kg (Total Mass) For the period 2004/003 to 2004/004 (including OSM4): ---------------------------------------------------- 18.20824 Kg Hydrazine at start (2004/003) 18.11174 Kg Hydrazine Remaining (2004/004) 5.26 kg Hydrazine Unusable 12.8517 kg Usable Hydrazine Remaining 0.09650 kg used over last 1 day Average daily usage: 96.4977 g/day Spacecraft Mass = 674.52 Kg (dry mass) + 5.29 Kg (Ox) + 18.112 Kg (Fuel) = 697.922 Kg (Total Mass) Engineering Data Due to MEX picking up transmissions to MGS as interference, MGS will not use ranging during mm331 sequence DSS-54 (DOY-017) Pass thru DSS-65 (DOY-025). Also, sometime next week (not yet decided when) MGS commanding power will be reduced to 10kW for both 70m and 34m stations. Please reply back to myself, Gene Brower, Pauline Hwang on the nature of any impacts occur to your science activity. I wasn't in the original coord. loop on this. Seems like there's a little experimentation going on. The upcoming activities should also determine whether ranging can be applied at a lower transmit power (without being detrimental to MEX).
