VPN provides an ethernet 'tunnel' from the SOPC through Stanford and the Internet to JPL where the link exits into a secure environment, bypassing the 56 kbps line that has served for the past decade. Early tests show a data flow improvement of more than x10. Remaining bugs include inability to connect beyond the FLTOPS network; but that is likely a routing problem on the JPL end. One hope is that we will be able to query for RSR data using only the SOPC; the present procedure requires queries on a JPL workstation followed by two transfers before the files are ready for archive and distribution.
