About half show dropouts in the free-space carrier level with magnitudes up to 0.5 dB in one-second averages of sample power vs time. These have been seen before. Of more interest is an apparent companion to the carrier seen in the power spectra from occultation 23466e (start time 2004/160- 02:55:00). The companion is about 10 Hz higher in frequency and about 40 dB below the carrier in amplitude. The accompanying figure (HEA4181A.PS1) shows the companion in two such spectra. Data collected at DSS 14 have weak spurs at +/-180 Hz on either side of the carrier. The following occultations were captured at more than one DSN antenna: Occultation Start Date/Time DSS #1 DSS #2 DSS #3 ----------- ----------------- ------ ------ ------ 23462i 2004/159-20:27:00 65 25 23463e 2004/159-21:02:00 65 25 23533i 2004/165-15:48:00 55 14 26 23534e 2004/165-16:23:00 14 26 23534i 2004/165-17:46:00 14 26 23535e 2004/165-18:21:00 14 26 23535i 2004/165-19:44:00 14 26 23536e 2004/165-20:19:00 14 26 23536i 2004/165-21:41:00 14 26 23537e 2004/165-22:17:00 14 26 23537i 2004/165-23:39:00 14 26 23538e 2004/165-00:15:00 14 26 23538i 2004/165-01:37:00 14 26 23539e 2004/165-02:12:00 14 26 Closed Loop Data ================ Data Collection --------------- We have obtained the following files from OSCARX: Original File Name Name on SOPC ------------------------------------ ------------ ODF: 04177o180.dat 4177180A.ODF IONCAL: gimcal_94_0406_dopr.csp 4153183D.ION IONCAL: gimcal_94_0407_dopr.csp 4183214A.ION TROPCAL: ATC04jun.csp 4153185A.TRO WEATHER: weather_10_latest.txt 40011801.WEA WEATHER: weather_40_latest.txt 40011804.WEA WEATHER: weather_60_latest.txt 40011806.WEA Ancillary Data ============== Data Collection --------------- We have obtained the following files from the DOM: Original File Name Name on SOPC ------------------------------------ ------------ AMD: amdgen.04-179.out 4177178A.AMD AMD: amdgen.04-180.out 4179179A.AMD DKF: mm355a.04.dkf 4182190C.DKF OPT: optg_m_040628_OD23713-23716_23970_V1 4180201A.OPT SAK: mgs_solar_array_2004-179.ck 4179179A.SAK SOE: mm355a.04.tsoe 4182190C.SOE SPK: spk_m_040628_OD23713-23716_23970_V1 4180201A.SPK TCK: mgs_spice_c_kernel_2004-179.ck 4179179A.TCK We have obtained the following files from NAIF: Original File Name Name on SOPC ------------------------------------ ------------ AGK: mgs_hga_ck_2004-06-19.bc 4171171A.AGK Figure Captions =============== HEA4181A.PS1: Spectra from DSS 25 showing spurious signal about 10 Hz above the MGS carrier (1070 Hz). Cause of the spurious signal is unknown; but there are dropouts of up to 0.5 dB in more than half of the free-space carrier measurements during this pass. The dropouts have been seen before, but the spurious signal in spectra has not. Each spectrum is the average of 59 s of data; spectral resolution is about 0.5 Hz. The third (top) spectrum shows only noise; the carrier had gone two-way and moved out of the RSR passband. Data from occultation 23466e (DSS 25, start time 2004/160-02:55:00).
