The variation had two components: a 30 s oscillation with amplitude increasing from +/-0.1 dB to +/-1 dB, and an monotonic increase of about 3 dB in the 3 minutes before ingress. Both could be explained as a CONSCAN response to poor initial pointing; but BOT occurred more than 20 minutes before the occultation recording began.
