For those who may be out of touch, his remarks are summarized here with emphasis on items of particular interest to radio science. E3 has begun and will run through FY06. MOC has completed 1000 ROTO's (imaging off nadir by rolling MGS) and 60 C-PROTO's (image motion compensation, allowing 50 cm along-track resolution). C-PROTO planning is labor intensive, but a "universal targeting slew block" has been developed, easing the load considerably. Among other targets, MOC is looking at possible Phoenix landing sites. Lamp degradation has forced TES to reduce calibrations to once per month; but the lamp seems to be stable at that usage level. Ten Radio Science egress observations are scheduled on 13 December. Because of reduced planning capability over the holidays, there will no egress campaign in January; but campaigns should resume on a monthly basis in February. Egress campaigns represent significant interruptions to nominal momentum management, impacting fuel usage. NAV is looking at options to reduce attitude fuel use more than RELAY16. Present gas use averages 4 g/day; about 10 kg remains. The Project continues to review lifetime predictions for major components, all of which presently look good through 2008. Tom believes MGS can continue through the end of the decade. One of the more likely hazards is losing another gyro; the Project continues to review single gyro mode possibilities. Sami Asmar has provided details on the December egress campaign: MGS will be supporting RS Egress Scans for 10 orbits on December 13-14 from approximately 348T14:00:00 to 349T10:00:00 UTC.
