PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2005-02-11 NOTE = "MGS RST Instrument Health Report HEA5042A.TXT" END_OBJECT = TEXT END Miscellaneous ============= The computer swap yesterday at Stanford was successful; there have been a few loose ends to tidy up. The new magellan.stanford.edu (a Sun Blade 2000) has CPU speed 5x, disk space 10x, RAM 4x, and hardware 5 years younger than the Ultra 2, which will now be phased out. The SOPC disk containing all user directories and the majority of transient data crashed this morning. We have reported the problem to the MMO GDS and to the JPL System Administrator, but there has been no response. Also, we have been unable to log into the mger1 work station at JPL, through which we obtain a large number of our daily files. This has also been reported to MMO GDS, with no response. In the meantime we have cobbled together several work-arounds and have a SOPC that is minimally functional. This report is short on data; but we believe we have recovered the transient data which were lost or know how to submit new queries for replacements. By next week, we should be returning to normal. The three TCK files listed below as "new" are composites, each covering about three months. The corresponding daily files have been backed up and removed from the magellan.stanford.edu disk farm. The following (slightly edited) message was received from Jesse Glance Friday morning: Due to MGS' momentum management challenges, apparently a result of changing the Solar Array offset angle from 10 deg to 35 deg (to reduce excess electrical power production), the project has just decided to return MGS to the solar array 10 deg offset configuration. SCT reports that available telemetry indicates four "desats" occurred on DOY-041, the first being an "off-axis desat" at 0500 SCET. Other momentum wheel angular desaturations include spin-axis desats. The reason for desats occurring on multiple axes may be due to MGS' reliance on its skew-axis reaction wheel, which compensates for the failed X-axis wheel, but has angular momentum in multiple axes. Commands to return MGS to a solar array 10-deg offset configuration (including MOLA Replacement Heater turn-On to aid with shedding excess power produced in the 10 deg offset configuration) are planned for later today (2005-02-11). Special thanks to Peggy Jester for supporting the short-notice command conference which required approval for the MOLA RHTR configuration change.
